The waters of the Pacific. The U.S. Navy detects a mysterious sound at a frequency of 52 Hz. Oceanographers identify it as a whale song. However, this animal — the 52-Hz Whale — produces sounds at a higher frequency than others of its species, which prevents it from communicating with them. Because of its unusual nature, it has been nicknamed the loneliest whale in the world. For years it has left behind an acoustic trace that scientists follow. Yet no one has ever encountered the 52-Hz Whale itself.

Good Waves Only is a performance about sounds that wander. About a whale that sings in a way no one understands, and about people who transmit on overlooked frequencies. Natural facts and scientific data intertwine here with personal stories of people experiencing loneliness. The creators invite the audience to listen for signals that often get lost in everyday noise.
